OPEC's Lukman Seeks to End Speculation on Output Cuts, AFP Says

Vienna, Nov. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Rilwanu Lukman, secretary
general of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries,
said a decision on the future of the group's oil production cuts
will be made at the next OPEC meeting in Caracas in March 2000,
Agence France Presse reported, citing an unidentified OPEC
official. Lukman's comments came during the first day of a two-
day meeting of representatives of OPEC ministers in Vienna
discussing the agenda of the Caracas meeting. ``Mr. Lukman said
not to speculate on the extension of the oil reduction after
March 31, 2000,' but to wait until the next OPEC ministerial
meeting in March, the OPEC official told AFP.

Oil prices have more than doubled this year from $9.55 a
barrel in December, as 10 of the 11 members of the Organization
of Petroleum Exporting Countries and four other nations agreed in
March to cut supplies by 5 million barrels a day, or 7 percent of
world supply, for one year, starting April 1.
