Tony,>>> Right now with AMD, to me, it's like the .200 hitter <<<

To me, it's more like the time Bill Veeck sent up the midget to bat and try to draw a walk. But, if you will remember, the midget struck out.

Regards,

Mary

Tony, RE: Right now with AMD, to me, it's like the .200 hitter getting a couple of singles and a double in one game, and one analyst jumping to the conclusion that he's going to compete for the batting title.

I think that misrepresents what Osha said. Indeed, nowhere does he assume that AMD will provide a long term challenge to Intel, and he hasn't changed his long term rating on either stock (which is INTC--good and AMD--bad). What he has done is lower his short term (<1 yr) rating on INTC.

The logic seems quite rational to me. AMD has figured out how to make the K7. They aren't going to forget how to make it, I don't think (although given their unique ineptitude, I guess you never know). That forces Intel to respond competitively to the K7 in the short run, which will probably hurt margins. Seems pretty logical to me. Whether the market is already discounting that logic yet is a little more difficult to determine, but it certainly is an arguable point.
