FROM gefuelcell.com great images go to the site. Product Description Imagine your own guaranteed supply of electricity in a compact, quiet, self-contained package - it's called the HomeGen 7000. This new energy system produces more power, and is more environmentally friendly, more efficient and more reliable than ever. About the size of a refrigerator, the HomeGen 7000 provides 100% of a home's energy needs, plus runs on fuels (natural gas or propane) already delivered to your home. The HomeGen 7000 produces electricity by combining the hydrogen contained in natural gas or propane with oxygen in the air. The system has three major components: A fuel processor extracts the hydrogen from the gas or propane. A fuel cell changes the hydrogen to electricity. A power conditioner converts the fuel cell electricity to the type and quality of power that you use today. The HomeGen 7000 also produces almost no dangerous or harmful pollutants. Its major byproducts are heat (used for hot water or home heating), water, and carbon dioxide (the same amount as a typical home furnace). Although fuel cells are new to residential power generation, the technology has been around for 150 years and used by NASA on board space missions for the past 30 years. The HomeGen 7000 will be available in early 2001. GE will place a number of pre-commercial systems in 1999 and 2000 for testing and product demonstration purposes. Plug Power is the exclusive supplier and manufacturer of the fuel cell systems comprising the HomeGen 7000. Discover the technology behind fuel cells - click here.
