Actually, I thought you were proud of being a reactionary, or I would not have used the term. Anyway, most centuries have been bloody, it is arguable that without the technical means to kill more efficiently, we would not be reeling. Mostly, though, technology is a blessing, and life expectancy has increased throughout the world, especially in the advanced countries.... I thought about Kennan, but I decided that his later revision of containment, which had him almost arguing against himself, vitiated his contribution. As for Sanger, I think that her promotion of abortion and eugenics dilutes her contribution.... I put Bowie on the list because he lent rock a greater musical sophistication, and was the godfather of punk/New Wave, which, in turn, was the inspiration for grunge, and thus has been central to the periodic revitalization of rock....
