I saw some real squalor down there. Some of the kids I played soccer with lived on dirt floors with no plumbing.

When I was in the painting business, one of my customers owned some buildings that welfare recipients lived in and I would periodically take care of some of the units for him. Brand new TVs stereos, and furniture were not an uncommon sight.

Know something, though? Those kids in Peru who lived in such poverty were an overall happy lot. The people I encountered in those buildings were a grim lot. Perhaps it is envy that causes that...
