An open msg to Jenna: Thx for passing along the link to the mid-Aug nwsltr which I felt contained some valuable info on charting and on upcoming earnings plays. That nwsltr didn't seem to have as much verbiage as the IMCL chart, but that is by the by - a good service indeed. Back in '98 I began with fundamentals (after noticing I could do much better than the dismal perf with brokers) and in mid-Dec'98 with a cable modem and a real-time data feed, worked the technicals and short (and shorter) term trades using several technical indicators intraday and been quite successful. So, I can very much appreciate the work you've done and believe it is something of value rather than fluff or unsupported info. One brief item i noticed on a chart was it was indicated the stock (eg. NOVL) was overbought. But, that was on a 6-month (approx) time-frame. For an intraday or "2-day"/momo trader, it may still have been a good trade on the upside with news, etc. Still, for an intermediate term position, it would be a stock to stay away from. Perhaps, for each stock, an analysis should be done on "short", "medium" and "long" horizons with advice for the day, 2-5 day, and intermediate term trades. I've typically found it useful to be in a stock with a strong "intermediate" term chart and good fundamentals, as these give a good backstop on the earnings plays. Having said all the above, there is a time constraint for most people, including myself, which is another reason for the charts in your newsletter (do you do the charting yourself?). Since the move to the Carib (the better part of 1999), I have adjusted my style to be more extensive on fundamentals and quick TA. Fundamentals help prevent temporary whipsaws in the market, and the depth of fundamentals has opened my eyes to holes in companies' market strategies, recognize trends ahead of the market, etc., a catch significant events at companies. Latest NMRX, DATM, GDC. Others RRRR, FVCX, IMCL, MCRL, APNT, DRMD(more to come), WGNR, ORTL (got out too soon), OCLI (got out waaay too soon), RIMM(got tired of waiting), UBS.vse (allowed to be talked out of large position - argghh). Be glad to provide fundamental input on tech co's if you wish.
