It that guy an idiot or what?

Mark Zohar, a senior public networks research analyst for Forrester, told Newsbytes that 3G technologies such as souped up versions of code division multiple access (CDMA) that could create broadband wireless services are nifty technologies without compelling applications.

That is like saying the internet will never become popular. The supply of high bandwidth wireless services will create its own demand. How many of us would be surfing the net if we only had 14kbs modems? The faster the connectivity becomes the greater the demand will be.

That article may be the most stupid thing I have ever read. Think of all the devices that are going to be available........its mind boggling to me and this guy is claiming it will never happen! I'm glad I don't have any money with his firm. We ought to copy it and mail it back to him in five years.

Place this guy right next to the guy who said that the Netscape Browser was a nice oddity, but nothing would ever come of it....This guy is a true advocate of some of the slower networks like CDPD and AT&T GSM enabled WAP phones.

If the carriers get the bulk rate of this service down to close tot he bulk rate of wireline, then everything breaks out like crazy. If they go to flat service rates of around $39-59 a month (direct comp to DSL and cable modem), then everyone would use it for everything. If you paid one rate for the service thru some virtual ISP and then paid an additional $3-5 a month for every device that uses it, it would be a killer app by itself. this way you buy the service and some virtual ISP keeps track of your connect time and packets for charging, but each device can hook in for some set of services. then you would only have one account which could be accesed by your car, your laptop, your handheld appliance, your Home network, etc. email everywhere, messages everywhere, privat network thru virtual networks to access files everywhere. Even the ability to use Net-computers which have no local storage and keep all the data on the net and just have a keyboard, mouse, and screen.

But then if you never build it then you will never get an application for it.
