We are fortunate enough to be able to manage on my husband's salary. Nothing extravagant, but the mortgage gets paid, and I get to enjoy my two kids. One of the greatest thrills to my week is volunteering in their kindergarten class. It's neat to see what they are working on at school and being able to ask relevant questions. None of this "What did you do in school today?" "Nothing" for us. I know their classmates and teacher well and am able to follow their discussions about school and activities. I wouldn't give up this time with them for the world. And even once I do go back out in the work force, I am going to try to work around school hours, so that I am there when they leave, and home when they get back, or very shortly after.

It has been my observation during my lifetime that those who are kind, are kind to all things, man or animal, and those that are not kind - well, that is where those nasty kids come from. A family that teaches kindness as a primary value will have nice kids all the way down the line; and those who teach kindness as being soft and weak - thats where those nasty kids come from, not to mention the nasty adults. IMO. PS those people that are pro animal are usually also pro kids. I never found it to be a dicotomy.
