CheckFree's shrs up as road show starts
NEW YORK, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Shares in CheckFree Corp. (NasdaqNM:CKFR - news), the No. 1 U.S. provider of online billing services, rose more than 10 percent in early afternoon trade on Thursday as it began a road show to promote a $100-million bond issue.

CheckFree was up 7-5/16 or 13.86 percent at 60-1/16 in early afternoon trading, placing it among the leading net gainers on the Nasdaq market.

A company spokeswoman told Reuters that CheckFree had not released any statements early in the day to warrant the rise in the company's stock.

But CheckFree Chief Executive Pete Kight and other senior officials began on Thursday a brief road show to discuss plans to offer $100 million in seven-year convertible subordinated notes.

In a Nov. 16 statement, the Atlanta, Ga. company said it planned to use the money raised from the offering for possible future acquisitions, among other general corporate purposes.
