Agreed!
However, my point is this:

Your local BELL will be happy to provide you DSL for about $40 a month (somthing like 256k). However, if you would like one of the "national" carriers, then they will tack on a bunch of $$$$ (something like $20-$30) on top of the $40, which makes the "national" DSL providers non-competitive with the local RBOC. The FCC ruling makes the two DSL "camps" equal.

I agree with you competition statement, competition makes everyone better. DSL by itself is stiff competition for cable already, the FCC ruling doesn't change that fact.
