if you play options you need the time. for example say you have a 30 call option and the stock closes at 33 on the last day for trading options. however at 13:15 pacific the company issues an earnings warnings and the stock is trading at 25 after the close. you would want to be able to elect not to exercise your option. alot can happen after 12:45 pacific and if you can't change your mind, you are not getting your money's worth in my opinion.
