Good point about Hayes.

I still remember the time a few years ago when I was sitting on an airplane next to somebody who worked for them. They were at their peak at the time. The guy was so proud that Hayes had invented all the standards for modems.

Well, I guess it goes without saying he probably doesn't work for them anymore.

The big difference between Hayes and BeThere is that Hayes, at least, became a standard before it went bust, and even today everything is "Hayes compatible". Data Race will have the less glorious distinction of going bust without anybody noticing. Nobody will be using "BeThere compatible" products after they disappear.
