I want to buy the most functionality I can buy right now in a "wireless" apparatus.
Mostly, it will be used in the car. Mostly the calls will never need to go beyond 200 miles and primarily under 50 miles.

I don't really need a palm pilot since my data needs are met at my home base location ( and I have a lap-top in case I travel and want to use the net.)

I really need a good "cell" phone and "contract" that will serve me for voice right now and hopefully put me ahead of the pack so I can take advantage of the innovations on the drawing board.

(I had a bell atlantic package and their suggested phone in 1996 and thought it was a rip-off. The kept changing my contact and extending the contract period. Maybe I just didn't understand the contract limitations)

How do you suggest I proceed?
What do you think I can get?

Thank you for your input.

Mq,

<< CDMA now has about double the number of GSM subscribers in the USA and GSM got a head start and for a while was way ahead >>

Yes (and USA cdma growth will continue) Yipee!

BUT!

GSM US now has a national USA footprint. License issues resolving. Paradigm Shift!

The USA scene changed

Please do not minterpret my remarks to be Q negative.
