Cringe - Re: "So why did Intel do a head fake on us with an October "release"?"

More evidence of your neck being out of joint:

"The HP with the cumine 733 was actually in stock and on the shelf. Consistent with the newspaper ad, it contained SDRAM. I counted 11 boxes on the shelf above plus the display unit. I was not able to find anyone to help me, so I didn't ask about sales. The only other Cumine I noticed was a 667mhz box (I think it was a HP)."

You are absolutely right Paul, today, which is 11/22/99 BTW, 733 cumine finally appeared at retail. This appearance consisted of one OEM apparently forced to utilize SDRAM just to get the box out the door.

Overall, even you would have to admit that this "launch" was a bit anemic.

But were these available in October?

No. Hence the October fake.

Now that HP systems are finally on store shelves, I expect Compaq systems also. By Christmas there may be 600, 650, 667, 700, and 733MHz Coppermine systems for sale. But these systems were NOT available on store shelves on Oct. 25, the processor's release date.

I think you are applying my October head fake statement to the current situation. Maybe you should re-read my original statement again...
