Before I got a remote for my TV my reaction was the same as your skeptical friends. Of course once I got it, my way of watching TV was changed as I discovered surfing channels. Maybe the best way to think of IPG is to think of them as an extension of the remote, allowing more efficient user friendly surfing.

An interactive programming guide does not seem like that big of a deal now. Maybe it's not. We'll see.

Well I saw it today for the first time. The sales rep here in Milwaukee was very familiar (has guideplus on his own tv at home). Became clear to me very quickly that once you have this feature, you will not live without out it.

My favorite feature: Sort by subject to sports, then to football, then select one of six programs featuring football topics. Way cool. If one is showing later and you want to record it, just cursor up to "record" and the tv sends your own vcr a record command (via a little infra-red wire) when the program begins.

As the salesman could see my enthusiasm, he surely thought he had a sale. Little did he know my enthusiasm was for GMST, not the tv. Luckily, for my escape, the local cable company requires a cable box and he said the guideplus would not work through a cable box. He must have wondered why I was still smiling when I left. Rory

OFF TOPIC

Most people who saw this early remote thought it was a silly idea.

Everyone who sees the remote to my fireplace thinks it's silly. My wife and I disagree. We like warmth on demand. :)
