Goutama, I became convinced of a Gateway/750 MHz connection when I realized that AMD could have announced the 750 at Comdex rather than 10 days later, I mean, who would know when they actually started shipping it?

Then I saw the email from Gateway on JC's site:
P.S. Please hold off until mid next week (11/29-12/04) before purchasing from Compaq or IBM and please visit our website, you might find what your looking for. :)

This makes the date that Gateway says you will be able to purchase an Athlon system very close to the 750 announcement date being rumored.

It is all speculation and the emails could be phony, but it makes sense.

Interesting report from C't online -

------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft is to pay for made too expensive software payment of damages

Three lawyers want to sue Microsoft, because the software giant is to have used its monopoly to sell in order Windows 95 and Windows 98 makes too expensive. The New York Times in their current output reports. Terry large, Daniel Mogin and Francis Scarpulla want to submit an appropriate collecting complaint (Class Action Suit) with the California Superior Court in San Francisco.

As many customers are affected by Microsofts price strategy, the lawyers did not number; The number estimated large however on approximately ten million alone in California. Also the extent of the financial damage, which is to have developed for the consumer, must be determined only in the course of a process. The complaint is to be further led also if Microsoft and the US Ministry of Justice agree during the trust process out of court.

After the proof appreciation during the anti- Trust process observer had already briefly predicted a wave of such damage suits. Reacted the New Yorker advertising agency Seastrom Associates Ltd. fastest, which requested week in New York a similar collecting complaint, already passed. (you find a detailed report for proof appreciation during the Microsoft process in the current c't output 24/99.) (wst/ c't)

<Charles has been very confident on this>

This time it is based almost entirely on public data. By the way, some of the rumors put 750 launch on December 13th instead of Nov 29th. I don't have any strong feelings on this one, other than to say that it would be cool to see 750+KX133+[3-2-2]SDRAM next week. Given the late launch, I expect only a small number of 750s to be shipped this Q.

Summary of systems being sold in San Diego by small computer
stores which build their own computers. The following
summarizes the types of computer systems being advertised
in the weekly ComputorEdge flyer -- a free publication in
San Diego county.

Publication Date: 11/19/99 11/05/99 10/22/99
Number of storefronts: 32 34 32
Athlon systems: 66% 62% 50%
Athlon 700 systems: 44% 21% 0%
PIII systems: 97% 100% 100%
PIII 600 MHz: 69% 79% 50%
PIII Coppermine: 0% 0% 0%
Celeron systems: 84% 71% 91%
Celeron 500MHz systems:66% 53% 31%
K6-2 systems: 72% 82% 81%
K6-3 systems: 53% 68% 62%

The following trends are evident:
1. Athlon penetration continues to grow, in particular
the fastest speed grade.
2. Nearly everyone sells PIII systems, but surprisingly
PIII-600 systems dropped a little, pushed out by Athlons
as the "high end" offering. BTW, hardly any of the PIII-600
are the 133 MHz bus type.
3. It is clear AMD needs higher MHz K6x's to stay viable in
the price range. As the Celeron 500 became more
available and cheaper, some outlets dropped K6x.
4. It will be interesting to see this Friday and next
whether any Coppermine systems are available.
