Like everyone has belly buttons. I posted what I read in the Chicago Tribune. Ireland would be a nice country if all the people were gone.

Thank you, CB. The situation in Ireland is indeed complex, having to do with historic colonization for political control and ensuing shifting alliances. It is in so many ways analagous to the complexities in this country in the history of slavery--"Who's on first...."

It is only peripherally connected to religion as Catholicism was the religion of the Irish who were forcibly removed from their own lands and, at best, turned into tenants by order of the Crown in favor of "owners" loyal to the Crown, who happened to be Protestant. This conflict has nothing whatsoever to do with religious beliefs. Religion is merely incidental.
