RNC PLACES TRICKSTER BILLBOARD ACROSS FROM GORE'S CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS

The NEW YORK TIMES is reporting in fresh Tuesday runs that the Republican National Committee is placing a billboard of President Clinton and Vice-President Gore in a deep embrace across the street from Gore's Nashville headquarters.

The billboard also highlights Gore's Impeachment day message praising Clinton as one of the country's best presidents.

TIMES scribe Katharine "Kit" Seelye reveals that the RNC plans to rotate a series of potentially embarrassing images in that spot throughout the campaign.

RNC chairman Jim Nicholson tells the paper:

"We want to turn some heads. It's a pretty stark reminder of his close relationship with the president."

In recent months, Gore has gone back and forth in distancing himself from the president because of the net effect the president's scandals have had on his reputation.

Responding to the RNC shenanigans is Gore spokesman, Chris Lehane:

"The billboard is telling in what it does not show, and that is the Republican agenda, because there is none."
