MS Investor Portfolio was much more reliable before they started their "multiple computer" version where your portfolio is stored on their computer rather than yours. But the whole portfolio, not just price and news, is stored only on their computers.

They do give you the option of backing up as in the past, but the changes you make each day are not automatically changed in your computer's memory. I back up frequently because I'm scared to death they will lose stuff.

It has worked well most of the time since then but there have been a couple of horrendous days. And it routinely loses notes I put in the edit section of each stock. This is what make me skeptical of the thin client concept. The old way worked fine for me just using my floppy to transfer the portfolio from computer to computer. Why did they go and make my life more complicated?

I don't know which software they use. But this raises the point that CTXS has some heavier weight competition out there from Oracle and MSFT.

I was attracted to shorting CTXS because I just not think the inter/intranet/servers/routers infrastructure was good enough yet to give the reliability most people need. Also for TA reasons. Also I heard on Digital Jam last night that some "internet solutions" and even the Palm were attacking its ASP niche. I did not comprehend what the analyst was talking about.

In summary, the thin client concept seems like a dumb idea to me now. And I'm pretty good at seeing the forest and not the trees.
