Brian, I agree. I hope Jackson spends the rest of his miserable life regretting what an idiot he is.

Brian, i agree. The states will want more than the DOJ and that will make a settlement very difficult.
There is something that could change the minds of the State AGs and that is public opinion polls. So far these are positive for MSFT. After all these guys are politicians in the USA (still find it strange to see elected State AGs).
Their political motives may help and we could see a settlement. The states that do not agree with a settlement could be alienated and won't be liked by Jackson, DOJ, and the remaining states. Their chance of success on their own goes down and their costs may be going up. For that reason, i still hold out hope for a settlement.

I had similar feelings that MSFT won't settle until
recently. But after appointment fo Posner, I think
otherwise.

I think Posner will lean heavily towards MSFT. He will
say MSFT hasn't harmed consumers and actually benefited.
He will say MSFT should have ability to invent, integrate
and bundle, etc..

The States and DOJ may be divided already. They will
relaize that it is better to settle when they agree to
at least some extent. Who knows after the elections.
The players and personalities, agendas, biases change
after Year 2000 elections. States and DOJ will have a
weaker hand after elections. Especially if Bush wins.

Go back to 95 when MSFT settled with the govt. Same
might happen. It will be a settlement that involves a
small slap in hand - such as I won't do XYZ inb my biz
practice.

Anyway I look at it, MSFT is about 30% discount to where
it should be, now.
