National Post: Letters to the Editor, November 24 - Peace appeal
By David Deng Chuour

Your paper has recently run several articles about Sudan and the
role of Talisman Energy Inc. in that country. The Southern Sudanese
Community Association, which is one of the oldest and largest
associations in North America representing the peoples of Southern
Sudan, is not in agreement with the points raised in your articles.

Your readers must know that the withdrawal of Talisman from the
Greater Nile Oil Project in the Sudan would not solve the problems
of the country. Talisman Energy Inc. in fact promotes the peace
initiative in the country, job opportunities for the people of the
Southern Sudan and the Sudanese in general and education and
development of the whole country.

The only solution that can stop the bloodshed and human rights
abuses in the Sudan is the peace agreement signed by Dr. Riek
Macher Tany, leader of the Southern Sudan Independence
Movement/Army. Our group is appealing to world leaders,
countries and communities who can promote this peace in the
Sudan.

David Deng Chuour, President, and William Gatchiang,
Vice-President, Southern Sudanese Community Association in
Alberta, Calgary.
