One of the computers at the hospital where I volunteer has a 3 1/2 floppy as the A: drive and that's what is
designated in setup. However, when I try to access the A: drive through My Computer in Win95, it says it's a 5.25 and will not read it. I have tried swapping out the drive and cable but that didn't help.

Any ideas?

None! This is the first time I have ever heard of this type of problem. Hence I can't make any suggestions.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think you can change the floppy drive type in the BIOS (i.e. 3.5", 5.25").

Floppy Drive Question.

1 3/4 extra inches of floppy ...

Have you tried your options in Device Manager? Is there an inappropriate device driver being loaded? What happens when you boot into DOS and not Windows? (As opposed to entering MS-DOS mode from Windows.) Does the drive light up or click when you try this stuff, or is it kinda dead? What do you see when you enter BIOS setup? What happens when you cold start with a bootable floppy in the drive?

Maybe one of these questions will help shine some light on the problem. Hope so.

Besta luck, PW.

After thinking about this some more I have one question. My question is what have you or others changed in the computer between the last time the 3 1/2 inch floppy worked and when Win 95 starting telling you it was a 5 1/4 inch floppy? Most of the time when mysterious problems like this appear in PCs it is because somebody has changed something. It is amazing with PCs how changing one thing in a PC can cause something else in a PC to fail even though ones first reaction is changing G couldn't possibly affect A.
