ynot:

The one additional 'ECN' you might add is MWSE. They are not really an ECN, but I understand (per OZ, I believe) that they are always 'real' and essentially 'act' as an ECN.

Regarding ECN's in Asia, my understanding is that there are currently no ECN's in the Asian markets. However, there will be a big change in this area early next year (~4/1/00?), when an ECN equivalent system will take effect which will serve all three of the major Asian markets, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan. This is expected to have a MAJOR impact on these markets, as their trading volume and liquidity is currently very low due to high spreads.

Also note that regulated commission rates were abolished in Japan on 10/1/99, opening up the discount brokerage business in Japan much the same way as commissions dropped in the US on May Day 1975. This will also help make short term trading more viable now in Japan. I think that the daytrading business will explode in the next 12 months.

Good luck,
-Eric
