John,

More seriously more information never hurts to have in dealing with institutions. I gave you the DLC equipment lead in that spirit.

Your real problem is getting DSL service of any kind available in your local CO. You may be in a pickle there given your location. It seems that the whole state of Maine is still black on the service maps that I have seen today at the web sites of the CLECs. I am sorta lucky in that Covad is open for business in my local CO. Now to "fight the good fight" of that damn distance limitation. A task for after the holidays...

FYI: I found a great DSL overview article at:
(there is an Intel mention on page four)

John, re remote DSLAM for ADSL servicing

You have hope - well, you might have a chance anyway...

I found out that my place also has a "DLC" shack for muxing phone lines back to the CO. The great news is it uses equipment from Pair Gain. I looked over their web site and indeed they are selling ADSL card to go in their remote system. Check it out at:

pairgain.com

How does this help you? Just that now you know that your ILEC or CLEC might only need to swap a card in your existing DLC rather than start from scratch. If this is true for you then it might cut a few years off your wait for service :)
