I disagree on using drugs to quit, Just stock up on

munchies and drink lots of fluids. You'll never believe the

improvement in your piping in just one week.

Shopping list: pretzels, fruit, ice cream

Just my 2 cents cuz I'm in week 7 and still

chugging along.

Hang in there Cameron.

I think I'm all prepared....

First step was to really reduce the nicotine dependance.... I switched to Viscount 1's a while ago. A whole pack only has as much nicotine as just one cigarette of where I started.... of course, I had to switch through about 6 brands over the course of several months to do it... gradually reducing the tar and nicotine each time... I'm at the point now, where I don't even notice the difference and have now been stable with them for several months... and the good news is that they're soooo... wimpy that nobody else wants to smoke one <ggggg>.

I thought about quitting on vacation last week... but why spoil a good vacation??? So this week, my objective is to be down to 1/2 a pack a day of 1/2 cigarettes by Saturday. So far so good... although I do notice that I am in fact a bit grumpy.... I just don't know if it is the cigarettes or RIM???<ggggg>. I've got the 1/2 pack thing pretty well under control and tomorrow I'll just be smoking 1/2 a cigarette when I do have one.

For this week, I'm supplementing my smoking habit with Twizzlers..... everyone should go out and buy Hershey stock!!!! Sucking air through the hollow center is almost as good as smoking. I also have several packages of Popeye candy cigarettes on the shelf - well you already knew I was nuts!!! I'm also keeping my pack of real cigarettes in the freezer so that I have to make a point of going downstairs to get one.... for one thing it makes you conscious of wanting a cigarette and getting one and for another, it means I have to leave my computer ... which I don't like doing!!!Anyhow... it seems to be working so far.

This coming Sunday is my quitting day. By that point, the nicotine dependence should be manageable. I do have a package of nicotine patches on the shelf if I start losing my mind and/or get to the point where I can't eat one more Twizzler.... I figure one is as likely as the other - LOL!! The irony is, that for most smokers (ie. Players, DuMaurier, Export A, etc.) the nicotine patch represents a reduction in nicotine ... but for me it would actually be a bump up even without the cut back measures this week.... Given that, I'm going to try and get away without them (at least continuous wear)... and if I can't ... well, I'm looking forward to the buzzzz!!!

I do honestly feel that the behavioural dependence is the worst part... worse than the nicotine, despite what you read... I may have to take up knitting or something else to do in front of the screen all day to keep my hands busy (please... no rude comments <gggg>!!!). Maybe I can do one of those latch hook rugs of a crow for the Chief - LOL!!

Anyhow... I'll try and keep my grumpiness to myself... but I'll apologize in advance if I'm not my normal self!!!
