Thanks for the reply. I am going to have to think a lot about your reply because as you can easily tell I know just enough about networking to be dangerous.

Spots does the answer John Navas supplied to the following question sound reasonable to you?

The following question was posted to the comp.dcom.modems.cable news group.

For reasons of reliability a day trader wants to be able to use either a cable
or DSL modem to connect to the Internet. Is it possible to connect to the
Internet from one PC using either a cable or DSL modem without shutting down
and rebooting? There is no requirement for using both modems simultaneously. I
read a post on a bulletin board saying Win 2000 will have the capability for
selecting either a cable or DSL modem to connect to the Internet and can do it
without shutting down and rebooting. However, I am also wondering if one can do
this with either WIN 98 or Win NT. If it is possible how would you do it?

Here is the answer John Navas gave.

You do this by using two network cards, and setting the default route to
one or the other gateway with the ROUTE command. (Run "ROUTE /?" for more
information.)

Side Issue I tried running the route /? command in a DOS box and using redirection to capture the output in a text file but ended up getting an empty file. Are there any other ways for capturing the text output of a command?
