Chuck, <I am not sure if THAT is AMD's intent. [to derail the IA-64 train with their x86-64 plans.]>

Yes it is. Like I said before, I've seen the arguments put forth at MPF by Fred Weber. AMD's plans for the enterprise is x86-64. Intel's plans for the enterprise is IA-64 (among other things). You don't think AMD is trying to derail IA-64?

<So, if you are suggesting that the performance target for Sledgehammer is Merced then I think that would be grossly underestimating competition.>

Given what you think about Merced, I have to wonder who's doing the underestimating. (Touche!) By the way, we're not even sure if Sledgehammer will be released before McKinley.

In any case, I think AMD has to worry more about Foster (and its derivatives) than about IA-64.
