Software stack; Nextel/Nextwave. As those more learned and ancient greybeards on the thread (Clark, engineer, Bux, qdog, Gregg (mhpnrip) and w molloy) will quickly tell you, I am not the most qualified person to answer that question well or easily. But as I understand it, the software stack is what both instructs the ASIC what to do and displays (via the DSP) the results of the ASIC's execution of its task, in the form of calls dialed/calls realized and heard, etc. Much like the OS to the desktop's microprocessor. According to some on the thread, I think w molloy among them, LSI's UI (user interface) due to its software stack on its CDMA ASIC is easier for software writers to work with, for electronic engineers to design with in the medium of a CDMA ASIC and, in some respects, a better design for carriers.

Gotta post this in two parts. Steve
