August,

One of the beneficiaries listed in the Rex Foundation was suggested to me by a colleague, The American Indian College Fund:

The others seem pretty quixotic, and that is not an insult - my own interests would seem quixotic to many. What are Mandatory Minimums, and what families are against them? Perhaps I should know, but I have to ask.

Horrified by capital gains, turn it into a tax deduction!*

Want to sell some shares that increased spectacularly? Give some to a charity, and let them sell them. Being tax-exempt, they will not have to pay tax, while you can claim the market value at transfer as a deduction. Check this first! I am no expert.

Perhaps I should have used this as the title of the thread.

August west, here's a charitable organization I simply love. ZERO dollars goes to overhead costs. It's 100% run by volunteers. The founder is a retired Navy Commander, a person of total integrity, who flies around the country out of his own pocket to help homeless teens.

Homeless teens are caught between being helped as adults through the welfare system and often times abusive homes. And there are far more than we would like to believe in America...
