I think there is a difference between my asking for normal guidance for shareholders and suspending belief in results until such guidance is given, and your demand that the company cuddle up to wall street and its the analysts and give them pep talks: apart from the fact that I am talking about shareholders and you are not, you seem to suppose that the results will be good and all that the share price needs is a constant PR campaign. I do not assume the results will be good and am suspicious that normal guidance is not being given because MC is not on top of his job or because the results are very uncertain (which, when you think about it, is the only "guidance" he has given so far).

If you analyse MC statements and all his rah rah they are about an indefinite future time when all the new products are on stream and earning new sources of revenues. It could be that he is trying to impress on the market that they should value COMPAQ on its future prospects rather than on what it is earning this quarter and next. That way, a negative surprise in 4Q might not hit so hard.

I believe if he knew something good about 4Q and 1Q he would have said it by now. He was not shy to state that the first few weeks of the 4Q were good.
