Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award for Dr.Jairam Menon

Dr.K.M. Jairam Menon: The Shining Light!


Dr. K.M. Jairam Menon is an internationally known name in the field of reproductive endocrinology. He is also a scientific leader in the use of molecular biology to study reproductive systems.

Menon is currently a professor of biological chemistry at the University of Michigan Medical School at Ann Arbor. For his outstanding research, particularly in the areas of biochemistry and reproductive science; his invaluable administrative contributions to the medical school; and his inspiring teaching and mentoring, the university recently conferred upon him the Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award.

Menon, who is also research scientist with the university's Reproductive Science Program, was one of the five winners of the award this year, which recognizes achievements in teaching, scholarly research or creative endeavors.

Menon joined the university's medical school faculty in 1970, and has directed the Division of Research of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1994. He has also held a variety of administrative positions in that department, the Department of Biological Chemistry and elsewhere at the university as well as other institutions.

He is a member of the merit review committee of the United States Department of Veteran Affairs, and has been active in the Endocrine Society, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Society for the Study of Reproduction and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation for more than two decades. He is a reviewer for a number of professional journals and published more than 120 articles.

Menon holds B.Sc. degrees in chemistry and technology from the University of Bombay, and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Boston University, Massachusetts. He is also a postdoctoral fellow of the University of British Columbia, Canada.
