Seems plausible to me that some posters on SI have a special agenda!!! If you are familiar with Scottish history, you will recall that Robert the Bruce saw a spider weave its web 7 times (it just kept on weaving every time the web was destroyed!) And this incident reportedly gave Robert the Bruce the inspiration and determination to defeat the English roundly at the Battle of Banockburn on June 23/24 1314. IT DOESN'T EXIST . In saying that, it is true that many countries have had selective times in which they have played the derivatives markets, currencies and GOLD to their best interests. And yes the small selective markets where hurt for a short time. But none of these actions have resulted in large scale deterioration of the markets to which the actions occurred. But this is the nature of markets. When markets; whether it's currencies, gold, oil, equities, bonds; get set into a trend that is dynamically unstable and may result in a more catastrophic consequence: it is the duty of the CB to break the trend.
