Hi Pat, I finally had a chance to quickly go through the patents. My analog design theory and semiconductor physics is a little rusty, but as far as I can tell the key pieces of technology VARI-L owns is a technique to reduce parasitic capacitance on a semiconductor layouts (important for high frequency designs) and a unique orthogonal resonator design which is designed to save packaging space. I can't comment on the efficiency of the designs for the other patents, but they are essentially more improved methods of implementing standard designs(ie.. a tank circuit). Except for the parasitic capacitance patent which can yield more efficient designs capable of running at higher frequencies I don't see a patent that would be a huge imsurmountable barrier to a competitor. Maybe someone else who works in the field and knows the patents better can comment? I would be interested in the answer myself. Harry
