Again some significant news on the wireless front from MCI/Worldcom and Lucent. Let's review all the industry developments of late.

- AT&T and it's reaffirment of fixed wireless as an option where cable and direct connection to the customer are not viable
- Cisco and it's significant investment into wireless IP routers
- MCI/Worldcom announce wireless net access service roll-out
- Lucent newly launch a fixed wireless product

These announcements are positive because a) creates credibility in the market place for wireless b) good public awareness of wireless through high profile companies c) potential new customers in the form of AT&T and MCI. Cisco and Lucent as competitors will be a threat long term but in the medium term they will help develop the market to the $2-$3 billion analysts are claiming wireless industry will be in 2 years.
