Michael,

Quite to the point... I do look at COMS as an investment. I like them for different reasons than perhaps you do - I like the PALM IPO.

COMS for the past two years has been losing market share in all their networking businesses....at an alarming rate. So, why should I believe things are different? They are not. To grow their business they are banking on broadband - but only in broadband modems and distant edges. I fail to see this going anywhere since these will very quickly become a commodity...and well... it's no different than where COMS is now.... NIC's and modems...now it's just broadband enabled such devices.

Micheal, management has shown no ability to succeed and their current strategy is suspect at best. Given this I find it hard to put blind faith in COMS - the underlying company. As opposed to PALM. Management may have succeeded with PALM but so far they're an abysmal failure in their remaining businesses.

So, as for the traditional businesses and their valuations... I don't think I gave a number.. but with their growth business being spun-off and investments reaching full value...given that core businesses aren't growing a valuation of the mid-20's is pretty optimistic...all else being equal.

OG

<<No, they are not CSCO, but who is?>>

Very good point that I made a long time ago, but not so succinctly.

Gary, I believe you acknowledged this about 2-3 months ago. The fact that COMS has not succeeded - yet - against CSCO doesn't make them ipso facto failures in networking.
