Ten,

Does that mean that the steps they took to get there (selling K6-x at below profit) could be considered anti-competitive?

It's only considered anti-competitive if you are actually making money.....not a worry for AMD.

Ten, Intel based server fans, I followed a post on the IBM thread and found some interesting IBM on Intel server facts. The IBM post URL:

Message 12132737

From the IBM server page: ibm.com we find that two of the five server lines IBM is pushing are Intel based.

AS400: 64 bit RISC
Netfinity: Intel Xeon or PIII
Numa-Q: Intel Xeon
RS/6000: Proprietary chipset, not sure what technology
S390: Proprietary "mainframe" CMOS chipset

The Numa-Q home page sequent.com has links to the different Sequent (company IBM bought to get NUMA) products, and to Project Monterey, whose next goal is 64 bit Unix on IA-64 (Merced and beyond).

With industry momentum behind us, and a safe,
smooth path to IA-64 ahead, Project Monterey
presents an easy choice for our customers.

Overall, looks like IBM has out/ is coming out with lots of computing alternatives, something they're famous for. Hopefully for them, one or two make it big. Hopefully for us, it's the Intel ones.
