Let's be honest, Sommers. I've taken notice of your online persona for months and haven't seen one post that showed curmudgeonly traits. Are you sure you aren't a sweet, sensitive person trying to gain admission under false pretenses?

Something has changed in your life, and that's for sure. Several months ago you identified yourself as a single parent struggling to get by. Now you are about to enter MIT and travelling around the world checking out CDMA's prospects. Whatever has happened is certainly goodness.

Congratulations.

Ruth,

<< I understand only about 30 people are accepted into this 12 month program each year >>

Congratulations!

<< Sprint's capacity issues ... they are still ramping network capacity >>

Sprint is often referred to as behind a "mile wide and an inch deep" but overall they are doing a great job. Check with locals about BAM v. Sprint for current CDMA coverage, value, before you subscribe. I'm a big BAM fan but I know Boston is (or was) one of their weaker cities.

<< I'm going to Hong Kong for a few months after the New Year >>

I would strongly recommend that you consider renting or buying a WorldPhone and subscribe Omnipoint with a Boston number for the trip. I do NOT recommend an Omnipoint GSM subscription as primary. Although Hutchinson is providing lots of funds to improve Omnipoint's NorthEast buildout there is a long way to go.

<< Hutchison Telecom has been operating a CDMA network there for sometime now >>

Yes but ...

I use Omnipoint for European travel with the older Bosch Worldphone to supplement my BAM subscription. The newer ERICY is supposed to be excellent. (swallow your QCOM pride for a few months and get some first hand, first rate, GSM experience).

Alternative is rent a GSM there. No Boston number for people to call you but ...
