James,

Obviously a VAR relation with Q would be HUGE for WRS. When I said that CDMA was small, I was comparing it to the whole world of embedded computing. Don't get me wrong, I love Q/CDMA as much as you and many others do.

If we were to strike a VAR deal with Q, I think it would be more likely for the higher data rate chipsets. MSM3000 caps off at 64kbp and MSM3100 caps off at 144kbps, if I remember correctly. I can see VxWorks for the chipsets after MSM3100. And I believe the chipsets after MSM3100 have dual CPU cores. It is a must for the firmware to be re-written for this new architecture. This creates a good opportunity for VxWork, or any other RTOS, to get designed in.

If a VAR deal with Q is signed, how do you think this will compare to I2O in 2 years?

p.s. This Q-WRS rumor has some sense in it. But what puzzles me is that I didn't think WRS was going after this market. Symbian is the one that every body knows, and Lynx has been trying. I just never heard of WRS going after this market. I have looked through WRS' job opennings a few times in the last three years. I don't remember seeing any openings for this market. (Though I have seen Q openings looking for people with VxWorks experience over a year ago. But the job description never said what product it was for.) With the HDR that Q is planning, CDMA can be an alternative last mile technology. And it makes sense for VxWorks to sit on any last mile product.
