Growing paranoia is one of the early symptoms of Alzheimer's, or so I've read somewhere.

Personally, I think I've grown less paranoid as I've aged. Over the course of the years, life has succeeded in impressing upon me the fact that I am not the Center of the Universe! <g>

You know, I've noticed many examples of the same sort of thing--not only increasing suspiciousness but a greater concentration on news stories that are about crime. Perhaps the sense of vulnerability increases with age?

people became more selfish as they aged, maybe that's part of it.

I don't agree with that at all, I think its the opposite actually.
