BULLETIN: Bug in Intel's Coppermine chips
Intel Corp. (Nasdaq:INTC) has acknowledged an errata or bug that causes desktop PCs using its Pentium III chip to not boot every time the power button on the machine is pressed. The errata, which effects only Pentium III "Coppermine" chips shipped since Oct. 25, would cause an end user to have to push the button a second time in order for the PC to boot. No cases, however, have been reported yet by end users, the company says. To limit the affects of the errata, Intel says it has stepped up its testing procedures in order to weed out effected chips. If an end-user should have trouble with a Pentium III PC not booting the first time its power button is pressed, Intel says that customer should seek the assistance of the PC maker the PC was purchased from. -- John G. Intel is not down that far, I'm wondering if the news is factored in the price AT ALL...I suspect this will get some play on CNBC tomorrow...
I guess Intel loosened it's testing parameters to get yields up and catch up on demand and got unlucky. I sure would like to know how tightening the parameters is going to affect yields. Out go the feelers again...

Thank you very much for posting this...you know, it's too bad good guys like you and PB have to take the brunt of the anti-Intel got-cha posts...posts that are really the backlash of all the Paul, Elmer, Youseless, Fred, et al AMD FUD posts of years gone by. The going gets a little tough and they go on vacation (save Elmer).
