Brian, it is inevitable that Cisco sales will overtake Lucent's, IF both company's growth rates remain the same: Cisco 49%, Lucent 20-25%. In fact, if Cisco continues to grow at 50% rate and Lucent continues at 20% rate then both will be at around $60 billion in revenues 4 years from now.

Let's see if it happens. My bet is that it will take 5 or 6 years for Cisco to surpass Lucent in sales. I'll still be here holding Cisco, will you still be holding Lucent?

>>Also, you are correct in that CSCO is innovative as a marketer. With the carriers, you need product.

That's certainly simplistic. Didn't LU exist for years as part of a regulated monopoly where parent must have trumped product? Wouldn't any unbiased person agree that LU gained their sales as much (if not more) by tradition and relationship than product? Don't those traditional relations exist to this day? The LUnatic board seems to think so.

Let's see if LU can retain the same in a free-wheeling open market where the new challenges that status quo.
