I think alot of the carriers will want to keep you captive on their own ISP, alot like AOL does.

That's an interesting thought. So the carriers could recognize another revenue stream through advertising? That could jump start wireless data by giving carriers one more compelling reason to roll out data.

I don't really understand the "value added" ISP or just where the "value" is. I have never used AOL or one of the other "value added" ISP's. My ISP has always been a transparent pipe to the Internet and E-mail services. The Airtouch Wireless Internet works transparently (for now).

Engineer, thanks for your expertise and generosity, they are much appreciated.

One more little question?

On the Sprint site (in the FAQ's) there is mention of the ability to pass modem AT commands from the Thinphone. Would this only be used if an actual modem was in the connection or would the digital connection emulate the function of the AT commands that were passed to it? No mention was made that the AT commands were restricted to a limited subset of all AT commands.
