that it will all fall in to place in the fullness of time
You didn't ask me, but you asked on a public forum so I don't feel shy about butting in -

This is a new market for Dell. They can always lower the price if it doesn't work, but they can't raise the price. The only category for low priced computers is the "Sub-1000" so it was priced in the category. If they show it is a superior product they can command a premium price (within the category). Times are good! There is really no incentive to bargain basement this machine, that's not the market, they still don't want the people who call and say "I plugged it in, now what?".

rude, here is the IBD link that I found but it might not be the one Jim referred to, investors.com

I seems that Dell did their homework as usual and is targeting their market segment in detail, down to the shipping box and website design.
Cheers
Mike

I bought the newpaper so I do not have a link.
DELL is addressing a special market which they have identified.
