Just to throw in my two cents to this civilized discussion :), I am having the problems with QCharts while connected to the internet via an industrial-grade T-1 Frame Relay line that costs $750/month... I run a PVC into a high-end, boutique ISP which sets directly on the internet backbone; they specialize in NO PACKET LOSS and even post their packet loss reports in real-time on the web during the day (www.walltech.com). Despite that outstanding connection which has served me well for years with all kinds of apps (I run a lot of stuff over it, and it is rock-solid and error-free), the QChart servers choke all the time for the past couple of months. Like today, half the day all I could get was one bar on the daily charts -- that is today's bar (no history). With new symbols, there was often a long wait with no chart at all, or a long wait for intraday data. I used CTL-ALT-N to bounce around to the different QC servers with no improvement. I am certainly not using a dial-in or low-bandwidth line, or a congested ISP. With the same internet connection, I run perfect price feeds all day to the Townsend Server (RTIII) and the WOW FDCN server (it makes no difference to QC whether I turn off the other apps/feeds; but there is plenty of BW for all of them). I know a lot about networks and data communications, and have little doubt that the problem is with the QCharts servers and/or with their ISP connections/network infrastructure -- that is quite obvious to me, just based upon the behaviour, and the data available. You can ask Gibbons about that one, I guess :) I had a good chat with Gibbons last week by phone, he is a very nice and obviously extremely competent guy. Clearly he does a great job supporting people that use QCharts, I don't have to tell you that. There are many good things about QCharts that I like, and I'm not here to complain or cause them trouble - this is just a factual report of real problems in an appropriate venue. Gibbons didn't deny the problems that I have reported exist, and he was helpful in suggesting better ways I could reach technical people at Quote.com to see if they can figure out a workaround. I will certainly report the precise technical resolution for my problems here when/if they figure it out. I will go on the record here as predicting that the QCharts problems do not lie with the end users like myself. If that turns out to not be the case, I'll be the first to acknowledge/report it. So, we'll see. I flip through hundreds of charts per day myself, too -- have lots of experience (6 years) as a real-time stock trader and definitely have a plan. I've recently started working as a moderator in the Pristine.com Real-Time room -- all of my associates there do the same kind of flipping through charts (that Oz discusses) all day, every day. For many advanced-level stock traders this is a standard operating mode. So, I don't think it's fair to criticize a trader for that. I would say, if I were just trading the Spoos or the Bonds (like I did for two years full-time), I doubt if I would notice the recent/current problems with QCharts. I'm often able to get ONE CHART (symbol) to work after a while. It's when you try to load a new symbol (manually, by typing it in), is when you can get into trouble. Regards and good trading, -Steve
