Larry,

I think CMGI's market cap is way over S&P's threshold. You don't need $40B to be there. When CTXS was included a few weeks ago, its market cap was only $6B.

My guess is that market cap matters until the number is larger enough. After that, stability and eanings growth potential weigh in the most. If you're right that S&P doesn't mind getting holding companies, I think CMGI has a shot much quicker than you have predicted.

Raymond

I bet that CMGI will have a legitimate shot at S&P next year this time when CMGI's market cap is hovering around 40B, just like YHOO before its entry to S&P.

Well, we're at a $18 B+ cap right now with a PE under 40... That's gotta be attractive to the S&P folks in the shorter term. Going to the S&P is not material to the fundamentals of the business, but it would surely give us even more juice, wouldn't it?

You could be right but I doubt it. Just because a company is a holding company does not exclude it from inclusion in he S&P500. I don't think BRK.A will be included in the S&P500 anytime soon nor will CMGI anytime soon. Earnings visibility is not pure enough.
