Re: "Is there any way we can start some sort of a boycott on Dell and Gateway for caving to Intel monopolistic tactics and not shipping Athlon systems? "

And your evidence is...?

Never mind. I forgot. This is the AMD thread. Here it's reality by consensus. If you all feel good believing this then it must be true.

Pravin. here is another slant on the Intel/Gateway conspiracy theory........ Maybe Intel fronted Gateway with enough money to buy a sizeable number of Athlon processors just to keep them off the market and away from other needy builders. Maybe Gateway never had any intentions of selling the Athlon systems.

Intel's got billions of bucks to burn. If you want to really examine how Intel might conspire to up-end AMD, then think "out-side of the box".

Pravin, Goutama: <<boycott on Dell and Gateway>>

Very good suggestion! Goutama, this list (how about expand to Yahoo and JC's board as well) will be much more meaningful than EPS one.

Put me in - an owner of 2 Gateway boxes.

No Athlon, No more Gateway machine!

Pravin - RE: "Is there any way we can start some sort of a boycott on Dell and Gateway for caving to Intel monopolistic tactics and not shipping Athlon systems? Maybe we can start a running list of people who swear that they will not buy or recommend systems from either company until they stop being accomplices to uncompetitive business practices. Maybe Goutama could control the list. I would be happy to put my John Hancock on it. If we got enough names, it might even make the news and put real pressure on those companies."

Nah, Intel will just wave 20M in our faces and we'll cave in. ;)

Hi Pravin:

Not necessary! Market forces are already at play...It does not require a brain surgeon to realize the pristine nature of the Athlon architecture as demonstated by the ease in moving from 500 MHz to 750 MHz in 5 months while their competitors with unlimited resources stumbled by the wayside in their attempts to feep pace with the 7th generation "here and now" Athlon!

If Dell and GTW are too boneheaded to see what is before their very eyes, someone will jump into their "Athlon void" and replace them in a very short term in the OEM marketplace!

I don't think Dell and Gateway are "caving in". They are just doing what they believe to be in their own commercial best interests. Gateway made their deal before they really knew the strength of the Athlon. It was a big mistake, in my opinion. I don't know if Dell have an exclusivity deal with Intel? It would be kind of amusing to see Dell shipping Athlon while Gateway remain chained to Intel :)

It is interesting that these "Intel-only" shops seem to be suffering even with preferential treatment from Chipzilla. Could it be that their single supplier policies are allowing Intel to take advantage of them? Plenty of chips but at unsupportable margins?
