<<And gleaned per Noam's comments (paraphased), the 'gestation process' if held permanently under the MRVC umbrella would slow the process down, be limited by bandwidth resources (personnel) within MRVC, and not as likely to attract cutting edge talent.>>

Ron, I'd like to reinforce your comments a bit here too.

Noam said in the last CC that "Time to market is everything".
Then in the annual meeting, he added the comments you mention above.

Along those lines, which would you rather have, 100% ownership of a venture that you don't have the resources and contacts to develop in a timely manner, and perhaps missing the market opportunity, or 40+% of a company (for a trivial amount) where bigger players with deeper pockets and broader contacts groom the startup quickly for "prime time"?

I'll take multiple 40%s, any day of the week.

Think also, about how quickly they can do this. Getting the initial funding for a high tech cutting edge venture has to be hard from financial firms because they don't readily understand the implications of the new technology.

Getting that first few million to get started could be difficult. Not with MRVC though. They understand networking and Optical technology. I imagine it wouldn't take much more than one well prepared presentation to get a decision and start the new venture.

What a great future MRVC could have if they keep this process going and going and going and ... <g>

I also liked your observation in the luncheon, that through this IPO and VC funding experience, Noam was learning "The Art of the Deal". A very important skill to acquire.
