So it sounds like Dec.29th is the accurate "announcement" date. I wonder if their "contract" with Intel expires at the end of the year or something...

Pravin, I just called and asked specifically for Select 600. I was talking to a factory rep. The Answer is Gateway WILL offer Athlon-based systems AFTER X'mas.

It seams to me Athlon becomes Gateway's bargaining chip. I don't know who will be the winner among AMD, INTC and GTW when the drama ends. From now on, I will discount GTW into the AMD stock price.

I still hold my numbers as shown in the Goutama's contest list.

Pravin,

<He told me that they did not have them now, but would in the near future. I told him I needed the system by Christmas. He put me on hold to duoble check when Athlon systems would ship. When he came back on the line he told me that they would be shipping shortly after the beginning of the new year, and that the closest thing that I could get in terms of performance by Christmas was a Pentium III 700.>

Thanks for the headsup. This makes the Dec29th date seem more certain.

Looks like gateway didn't want to messup their Christmas season with a mid-stream product switch. Or, more optimistically from the AMD perspective, Gateway may have fallen back to the end of Athlon line and didn't have enough product to make a Christmas SKU.

Taken in this context it makes a lot of sense why Gateway may not want to talk about Athlon now - Osborne effect comes to mind.

Whatever the reason, Q4 seems to be well set from AMD perspective and I have a feeling we are building up to a solid Q1 (> 2 Mu).
