John: You are right of course. WAP is a nonproprietory "open" standard. But the creator of that standard stripped to essentials is Phone.com - then Unwired Planet.

They were crazy like a fox. By making this part "open" they are now the "experts" and the brains on that open standard.

And they will make their money primarily from providing such stuff as servers and services - especially to the who's who list of companies that have signed on with them already.

A most interesting and unusual approach.

At least this is my understanding, and of course I look to learn more about all that.

I support Mike's suggestion to you that you broaden the title to include royalty, since you will no doubt have some "royalty" in the game.
