GMST enabler or app.?

My PC @home is dead (thanks MSFT...I may not know where I want to go
today, but I have a pretty good idea where I'd like Bill and Co. to
go right about now) so I haven't been able to keep current. However,
I did see your challenge to define GMST in terms of Moore's
definitions...and I'm hoping that I haven't missed the discussion.

I think that you're right, this is a loaded question w/r GMST. I
think it's a combination. Moore defines an enabler, basically, as
a hardware solution, and an app as a software solution. GMST has
both of these characteristics...kind of. From what I understand,
GMST does circuit design...and their efforts in this area are probably
best thought of as software within the hardware...not really sure.

I find one other thing interesting about GMST's position. In the
classic sense, one thinks of an enabler as just that....a solution
that wasn't possible until the enabler comes along. However, with
GMST - I'm not sure that you can say that it is an enabler...from
the customers' (or viewers') point of view. What makes them an
enabler, to my mind, is the technology that they bring to the
advertisers - not the viewers.

Also, I view GMST's product more of an evolution than a revolution.
I say this as a TV viewer - not an advertiser seeking to target same.
There are lots of ways to get TV listings and program information.
GMST's is probably the most convenient...and in this respect, I
think it mirrors their other products. The idea is to make
dealing with the TV easier. I think that they're right....it's
a winning strategy - and I think it's also the reason that the
PC as your TV will never hit the big time. How many people are
going to want to deal with a flakey operating system...just so
that they can watch TV. Nope, you gotta keep it simple. Very simple (I'm hoping to have my home PC back up by next Monday).

I am long GMST, by the way.

So what is the implication to GGers (and why did you probably ask
the question)?

Moore says - buy the apps in the bowling alley...don't buy the
enablers until the tornado has formed.

GMST being a combination of enabler and app. (and probably more
app than enabler) - this would suggest that it's better to get
into GMST sooner than later.

Or is this just another instance of group think?
